We’re elevating market benchmarks in salmon quality, consistency, and availability. At Northline Seafoods, we integrate processing operations into a streamlined, efficient platform. By reducing steps, we enhance traceability, cut down handling, lower costs, and adopt a model designed to lessen our environmental footprint.
This unique approach moves away from traditional onshore fish processing plants, reshaping the production pipeline—cutting costs and preserving exceptional freshness.
Northline’s path to market is simple: fishermen, the Hannah (for flash freezing, transport, storage, thawing, and processing), and then the consumer.
In contrast, the traditional model has many more steps—fishermen, tenders, processing factory, trucking company, Bristol Bay port, cargo vessel, Seattle port, trucking company, cold storage, reprocessor, and customer – requiring more product journey hand-offs, risks, and possible cold chain disruptions.
At the core of our model is retaining the peak flavor and integrity of Bristol Bay sockeye salmon. By partnering with experienced, passionate fishermen, we ensure the best product from the start.
Our mobile freezer barge, the Hannah, disrupts the seafood processing ecosystem by flash-freezing whole fish to -30°F within hours of being caught. By freezing our fish to an ultra-low temperature extremely fast, the integrity of the flesh is preserved – sashimi-grade quality.
The vertically integrated Hannah buys salmon directly from fishermen, flash-freezes whole fish onboard, and transports them from Alaska back to Washington state. Each spring, the mobile barge travels to Bristol Bay for the fishing season, returning to Washington at season’s end.
The Hannah, spanning over a football field in size, holds over 10 million pounds of frozen salmon. It serves as onboard cold storage during the season, during transport, and again in Bellingham before distribution to our customers.
Ready for your Northline salmon? We thaw and process the fish on demand to meet buyers’ exact specifications, all within a dynamic system. This “just-in-time” approach minimizes waste, ensures quality, and maximizes efficiency, delivering a superior product every time.
Our ultimate goal is to deliver the highest quality, most consistent Bristol Bay salmon to your table. “Ocean fresh” means wild salmon frozen at peak quality immediately after catch, preserving flavor, texture, and nutrition. It stays pristine through transport and is reprocessed on-demand, ensuring every bite is as fresh as the moment it left the water.
